Wikipedia is a free-access, free content Internet encyclopedia in English founded on January 15 2001. Since the beginning of 2015 Wikipedia exists in 287 languages. Since 2003 there is also Serbian version of the encyclopedia with more than 310.000 articles which cover a great number of themes.
In addition to general topics of global importance, many local topics have been covered. The Wikipedia content is under the Creative Commons license which allows every article to be edited by a huge number of Internet users. Editing Wikipedia is not technically demanding and enables not only users who do have advanced technical knowledge but also the wider public to share their knowledge with the community.
Verifiable references are cited in the Wikipedia articles and that makes it much more reliable. Every revision of the article is recorded in the page history and all older versions of an article can be accessed. All changes made in the article are checked by administrators.
Wikimedia Serbia is an organization which deals with open education, its collection and dissemination in a non-profit way. Its goal is to popularize knowledge and to provide greater visibility of information, to create and put in open access knowledge and to upload it in the Wikimedia storage under the free license.
